Yesterday I was at Borders, like I am on every Saturday, and picked up Modest Mouse’s first album, “This Is A Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About”. I didn’t quite know what to expect. Like most people, the only other Modest Mouse album I’ve had has been “Good News For People Who Like Bad News”. I liked that album a lot, and even though I heard their early stuff was a lot different, I decided to try it anyway.
It is GREAT. With songs that flow together and shift between calm melodies and intense, loud songs, the album is a good choice to play all at one time. The music and vocals are creative (Isaac Brock has a voice that is instantly recognizable) and the lyrics are interesting and imaginative. “Long Drive” is the perfect choice when you’re in a creative mood and want to put on a CD that will just flow until the very end.
Above is the song “Talking Shit About A Pretty Sunset”, one of my favorites from the album. Listen to it.
“I didn’t quite know what to expect.”
Oh my god.
This is, hands down, the best post I have ever made. Or at least the best to look back on.
